Bally Chohan comments on Education Reforms in Abu Dhabi

Bally Chohan Dubai (UAE) says that reforming present education system in UAE is not easy.  However the education reforms in Abu Dhabi has to be pushed seriously if in case the government is thinking in terms producing students in term of higher education.

Bally Chohan Dubai (UAE) has come to know that the education council of Abu Dhabi is planning to eliminate almost twenty five per cent of the variance between the worst and best schools in the capital of UAE, Abu Dhabi. The ADEC is planning to achieve this in coming ten years.

Dr Rafic Makki, director of planning and strategies at Abu Dhabi Education Council informed media persons that the government is not happy with the performance of some of the private schools in Abu Dhabi. Bally Chohan has come to know that the Abu Dhabi Education Council has conducted two rounds of inspections during the academic year 2008-2009 and also in the academic year 2009-2010. During 2009-2010 the inspection was carried out by international inspectors.

The inspection team rated all private schools on the basis of nine standards. Most of the private schools failed to achieve the criteria set up by the International teams. Some of the criteria’s mentioned in the standard list were quality of teaching, facilities in schools, school management efficiency and the leadership skills of school management.  Almost seventy percent of the schools were found to be below satisfactory grade. Only twelve percent of the schools were adjudged to be GOOD.

Bally Chohan considers this to be very alarming since almost majority of students i.e. almost sixty percent of the students in Abu Dhabi studies in private schools.

The international inspection team suggested some improvements like using projectors in classroom for teaching lessons effectively, establishing computer library and good study material.  The inspection team also advised schools to fix seat belts in the school buses however majority of the buses run by schools are on rental basis. The schools don’t own those buses therefore cannot fix up seat belts. The international inspection team dedicated one week of their inspection to primary schools and another week to senior classes.

Bally Chohan also liked the proposal of international inspection team to have counselor for class XII students. Counselor will help grade XII students in choosing right career after grade XII. The Abu Dhabi Education Council is hoping to get almost 170,000 new students enrolled in different schools in coming ten years. The Abu Dhabi Education Council assumptions are based on the facts that the national population of students will grow at the rate of two percent per year in the years to come.
